Recently 7th graders attended a Career Day at SAHS and SCTC where they explored a variety of professions. One engaging session was led by nurses from RFGH. During this hands-on activity students learned how to administer an injection using a real needle and a spongy cushion. The experience sparked excitement and curiosity as students were highly engaged.

Students working with medical equipment with an adult.
Puberty talks with Mr. Bigelow and Ms. Martell are continuing at SAMSโ€ฆ and letโ€™s just say, our 6th graders are becoming pros at growing, changing, and staying fresh. Weโ€™ve covered body changes, the importance of hygiene (hello deodorant!), and created a safe space for all the questions, even the awkward ones!

Lots of giggles, a few โ€œewws,โ€ and most importantlyโ€”students are leaving feeling more confident and informed. And as always, we hope the conversations keep going at school, at home, and everywhere in between. ๐Ÿ’›

๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ”ฌ Maine Bio Day at Skowhegan Area Middle School! ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐ŸŒฒ

This week, our Penobscot students had the incredible opportunity to meet two representatives from Sappi along with Dr. Brodsky of Maine Health, who opened their eyes to the wide range of science careers available right here in Maine!

From foresters at Sappi, who shared what they look for when theyโ€™re out in the woods and the many career paths within the company, to endocrinologists and medical researchers, students got to see just how many possibilities the bioscience world holds.

They were encouraged to dream bigโ€”their wildest dreams!โ€”and to think about the steps that can lead them to their future careers. We also talked about the value of volunteering, trying new things, asking questions, and building skills through every experience, even if it doesnโ€™t seem directly connected to their career path just yet.

A huge thank-you to our guests for inspiring the next generation of Maine scientists! ๐ŸŒŸ

A Community Champion is a person who collaborates with a variety of partners to strengthen school, business, and non-profit relationships for the benefit of the community and our students.

Congratulations to SAMS' first Community Champion of the year, Mrs Tanner! Not only has Mrs Tanner made our school and district a better place through her years of leadership for the Penobscot Team and Math Department, but she leads the Sweet Dreams Project for our community. This project organizes local volunteers, coordinates donations, and partners with local groups to collect and distribute gift bags and pajamas for children in need across central Maine. She cannot be recognized enough for this projectโ€” it is outstanding. We have all been lucky to have the opportunity to be a part of this amazing community service.

Thank you for everything you do, Mrs Tanner!
