The end of the 2024–2025 school year was marked by joy, community spirit, and meaningful milestones across MSAD 54. As we enjoy the heart of summer, we look back with pride on a season filled with growth and celebration.
At Margaret Chase Smith School, students wrapped up the year with longtime favorites like Field Day and the “Bikes for Books” Challenge—where 20 students received brand-new bikes thanks to the generosity of the Masonic Lodge. On the final day, staff and students left their handprints on the walls in a touching tribute to the closing of the school and the exciting opening of the Margaret Chase Smith Community School this fall. The community is invited the the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on August 5th from 10:30-1:00.
Over at Mill Stream Elementary, second graders became “Pollinator Ambassadors” through a hands-on, community-connected learning unit. With support from partners like Johnny’s Seeds and Somerset Public Health, students researched pollinators, created brochures for local businesses, and hosted an engaging Pollinator Exhibit attended by families and other students.
This summer, MSAD 54 also wrapped up a successful Summer Learning Program at Mill Stream Elementary. Dozens of K–5 students participated in academic and enrichment activities that blended literacy, math, and hands-on STEM exploration while middle and high school students engaged in personalized learning experiences tailored to their needs at the same time. Thanks to small-group instruction, themed learning camps, and strong family partnerships, the program helped students stay sharp, engaged, and ready for a strong return this fall.
