A Community Champion is a person who collaborates with a variety of partners to strengthen school, business, and non-profit relationships for the benefit of the community and our students.
Congratulations to Diane Leeman and Crystal Dorr for being named Mill Stream's first Community Champions of the school year!
Crystal and Diane have spent the past two years embracing and enhancing the new EL Education curriculum. As a culminating activity for the poetry unit, they have created a special opportunity for students to share their hard work through a Poetry Slam.
In partnership with the local Norridgewock Grange, students present their original poems in front of families and community members, celebrating creativity, confidence, and voice. Following the event, the fourth gradersโ poetry is displayed at the Norridgewock Library, allowing even more community members to enjoy and appreciate their writing.
This collaboration beautifully highlights student learning while strengthening the connection between school and community.
Thank you Crystal and Diane for everything you do, weโre so lucky to have you here!

๐โจ Our Third Graders Meet Their High School Mentors! โจ๐
This month, our third graders helped kick off the 2025โ2026 Adopt-A-Classroom Program! Through this special program, high school seniors from across the district โadoptโ a third-grade classroom to build friendships and share inspiration for the future.
During their first visit, the seniors shared their dreams and career goals โ from becoming a neurologist to a nail technician โ and led fun, hands-on activities to help our students start thinking about their own hopes and goals.
Third-grade teacher Sheryl Gray said,
โThe kids loved connecting with the older students and had a lot of great questions. They were able to connect with them in a really positive way about their futures and goals. The high school students made the kids feel safe to share their dreams and reassured them that with hard work, they can accomplish anything and that the world needs people in all kinds of careers!โ
Weโre so proud of our third graders for dreaming big โ and so thankful to our high school seniors for being such inspiring mentors!

โจ Our staff spent the summer recharging, adventuring, and bringing our mini River Hawk mascot along for the ride! From professional development to quiet moments of rest, the River Hawk was right there with them.
Now, just a few days into the new school year, that same energy and excitement has filled our halls. The first week back has been wonderful โ full of smiles, learning, and fresh starts. ๐งก
We canโt wait to see where this year takes our students and staff. Hereโs to soaring high together in 2025! ๐ฆ
